I’m a Retired English teacher from Pocatello, ID. I like my adopted town and I will write here about life, politics, culture, education, and whatever comes to mind. My politics are unabashedly Progressive in nature but I’m a social and cultural libertarian, whatever that is. I have eclectic tastes in music, food, literature and art. I love riding my motorcycle and I occasionally write about that. I sometimes commit random acts of poetry. I love my wife, my kids, my grandkids, and I cherish a few good friends. I’m an agnostic/Buddhist/Humanist. I’ve been a teacher, truckdriver, D-J, salesman, bartender, ranch hand, union organizer, hell raiser, and business manager. I’m a Viet Nam veteran . Influences of all of these things may be reflected in what you find here.

Hi Bill:
Susan Johnson lives next door to me. Susan is heavily involved in the Recall Luna campaign along with Helen Avila. Both of these women have worked tirelessly for weeks on end to collect signatures and to find help in collecting signatures on both the recall and referendum petitions.
Neither Susan nor Helen are educators themselves. I am awed by their work ethic for this cause. I am also disheartened by the minimal support local educators have given them. I understand that grassroots political efforts are not for everyone, that educators are tired/busy with other things this time of year, but COME ON. I am embarrassed that we are relying on others to do the work that we should be embracing. Think of the message that sends to our legislators; that we accept what they have bestowed or don’t care enough to stand up for ourselves.
There are just under three weeks left to send a second message, loud and clear, to Mr. Luna. Even if we don’t achieve the ~158,000 signatures, the closer we get, the louder the message. All of us can afford to donate two to four hours to help cover Recall tables through June 25th. I would like to personally contact a number of people, but do not have summer email addresses. I am asking you to share them with me.
I found your blog by using the tag surfer. Keep up the good work!
